A kids bike that has a lower centre of gravity will ensure it is easier to control at any speed. From start up speed for learners to high speeds for budding dare devils, the superior distribution of weight of the ByK kids bikes ergonomic design inspires confidence and control in the rider.
The low centre of gravity design is part of our total ergonomic concept. Compared to the top of the wheels, the heavier elements of the bike are sitting lower or deeper into the wheels. It is our unique design and you may see this visually illustrated on our safety page. Effectively we have helped to stabilise the rider and distribute their weight and the bike weight to a position of better control.
"Ergonomics is the study of people's efficiency in their working environment", Oxford Dictionary
Every single part that goes into making our kids bikes has been measured for function and size according to the needs of a child. Our team of experts have designed a new frame shape and chosen a mix of parts that are child-specific and intended for that rider’s height, age and ability. In doing so, we have achieved the best possible riding position and easier bike to ride, plus it is safer for children.
After design & efficiency, the next most important aspect is weight. This applies to all bikes and in kid’s bikes we have found most bikes on the market are over-weight! The average adult bike weighs approximately 15kgs with the expected rider to weigh between 60-90 kg. By comparison, the average children’s bike weighs 13kgs for a child weighing around 20kgs.
You can clearly see the kids have their work cut out. By making our bikes 20% lighter, the rider benefits hugely in many ways, especially bike control. Every little bit of weight we have saved will benefit your child as it does on an adult bike; just multiply the affect by more than two!
Our ByK bikes superior efficiency is possible because we have an innovative design and genuinely lighter weight, but also from our more efficient wheel dynamics. We have achieved this by reducing the rolling resistance of the tyres while increasing the overall rolling size of the wheels.
ByK bikes have the most efficient wheels in the children’s bike market. One major benefit from our big wheel concept is the significance it has on reducing the time it takes to get a stationary bike up to balance speed, a critical advantage for all new riders.
One common issue parents find with kids is they often rely heavily on training wheels, and of course the training wheels wear out. This is a natural reaction, training wheels have a level of assurance that helps raise confidence.
Another way to raise onfidence is by lowering the height of the seat. Initially us parents will think this makes the bike seem too small. That is partially true but the advantages are greater. By lowering the seat the child sits deeper into the wheels and this help lower the medium height for balance. Plus the child will feel safer because they can easily touch the ground, they will feel more secure.
Better still, take off the pedals and the trainiers and turn the bike into a short term "balance bike", like the ones without pedals (E-200 as an example) This way training wheels become only part of the development, not the main thing.
To make a children’s bike safe, the rider needs to be able to brake efficiently and confidently, as well as feel stable whilst stationary or whilst on the move.
We have ensured the handbrake is sized specifically for a child and is made of non-flexing, strong and light alloy. And meeting Australian standards, all bikes also include the foot brake as well as a hand brake – even the E250 for the youngest rider. In addition, the E350 and E450 models have both front and rear alloy handbrakes and a footbrake
Our light weight alloy rims ensure pedalling is easier. But more importantly alloy rims are a more efficient braking surface than cheaper, chrome-plated steel rims, and are therefore safer.
From the child-specific alloy handbrakes to the low centre of gravity ergonomic frame design, safety is the no.1 priority of the Kids Bike Co. Rider input in bike safety is essential and by offering advanced design and premium features, ByK bikes offer a safety level never seen before in kid’s bikes.
Unfortunately not all bike manufacturers are equal. If you have ever owned a low quality bike you will know exactly what we mean. At Kids Bike Co. it is our company policy to use only the best suppliers the industry has to offer. For added assurance we have employed the most thorough quality control checks available. Your expert local bike store will give testimony to that.
Check out the Childrens Bikes Sizing Chart for our recommendations. It is possible to quickly ascertain the right bike for your child. We strongly recommend that you not over reach your child - learning to ride is tough enough, bigger is not always better.
A bike is the right size when your child can:
As your child grows, you can raise the seat post and handlebar stem according to the owners manual limits.
We have a unique innovative design that is safer and easier to balance and control at any speed, more efficient to pedal and lighter for better manoeuvrability. Our bikes are more fun. Every single part and every step of the design process has been thoroughly considered so that we offer you the best possible children’s bike we can.
